The biggest game manufacturer of Japan, Nintendo, announced a press release revealing the launch of a product in the gaming console category.
Presently, the two leading manufacturers in the gaming console market are Microsoft and Sony.
Once Nintendo launches its 3D DS consoles in the market, they will have a run for their money. The scheduled date for the release of the console has been slated for March 2011, and the console has been tentatively named – 3D DS.
The unique selling point of the 3D DS, as the name suggests, is the concept of 3 dimensions in gaming, something never experienced in earlier gaming console technology.
However, the uniqueness lies in the fact that, no bulky polarized glasses will be required to enjoy the 3D experience! Despite this innovative technology, Nintendo has still taken care of all its loyal fans – the 3D DS console is backward compatible, and you can continue to play the earlier games on your DS console.
The DS console was launched in the year 2004, and it was an instant hit. Till recently, the DS console which has sold more than 125 million units, was a kind of a best seller. Though the launch of the Apple iPhone hampered the sales of the DS console, Nintendo is planning to get its market share back with the launch of this new gaming console.
Although the 3D technology has been around for a few years, but since the release of the movie Avatar, the need for 3D gaming has increased manifold. After the huge success of Avatar throughout the world, leading electronic manufacturers are trying their best to get the 3D experience into our living rooms.
Samsung has already launched its 3D LED television sets, now widely available in the market. Though, game manufactures like, Sony and Microsoft are planning to launch their own 3D gaming consoles, Nintendo still stands tall among these giants due to its 3D experience without the need for polarized glasses.
The price, always a major factor in any decision-making, has yet to be disclosed. But, even if it is on the expensive side, this gaming console will still sell like hot cakes among the gaming enthusiasts.
Although, the exact technology used in the 3D handheld consoles is yet unknown, it will definitely capture a huge market share giving tough competition to the current best sellers, like the Apple iPhone.
